The premise initially was that everything was by hand. I did a few large ink drawings. As a drawing exercise in theme with the project I drew the pages in ink freehand with minimal pencil drafting. The drawings I submitted are part of my ongoing "Invisible Empires" series which I started in 2001. All of my drawings are rather imperfect and honest as I did not use any straight edges or fix my "mistakes" to refine things. I have yet to see them in person but you can see some sample spreads as well as purchase a copy at Jun's Blog.

32 pages, Black Ink on Newsprint for $5 dollars. I've spent a majority of the past month taking some away time from the computer and drafting table. There are some new projects and shows in the next few weeks which I'll be involved in. One notable item will be a zine available for purchase in my shop section. It's a collaboration between myself and the talented Ben Niznik of KlaimCo. Only 30 copies were made and only 15 available through me. They look great and can't wait to share them with you. I have a pile of back logged work that is still being sorted as well as some new items for purchase soon to be available on my shop. In the meantime I thought I'd share a fun little type treatment I did (above).

Canvas LA show: Be Here Now

Hello Hello,

Just wanted to give a status update. I'm wrapping up my time in LA, it's been overcast and dreary the whole time I've been here which was completely not what I expected. Regardless, it's been a great trip. Big thanks to the good people at Canvas LA and Daniel Albrigo for putting the show together and all of you who stopped by the opening to show some support.

On another note before I left I wrapped up two spot editorials for Transworld Skateboarding which will be in next month's issue. Both illustrations deal with a bit darker subject matter which was an interesting change from alot of the lighthearted images and graphics I've been producing lately. As always you can see process images of current and past work on my flickr as well as snippets of inspiration and life/fun.

One more thing I'll have work in a group show at OpenSpace in Beacon, New York later this month. I'm very excited from this as it will be a collage only show so I'll get a chance to work in a medium I often don't get to explore.

Best wishes to you all, Happy June.

-Mr. Kiji

REUP: Electric Windows Beacon Summer 2008

I realized that the old video I had no longer works so I wanted to reup the video. I'm still waiting to get photos of it installed.

Breakfast

A few weeks ago I sketched out a few observational illustrations. I've been offline for a bit involved with a few non-computer related things, a great change of pace and thinking which has been very refreshing. Anyways, I wanted to just make a note that my good friends over at Joshua Liner Gallery are exhibiting the work of Tomokazu Matsuyama. From the preview I got I highly recommend stopping by and checking it out. The show opens tonight (March 6th). For more information on the gallery please check their site here

Mars 1 at Jonathan Levine

I got to preview the Mars 1 show at Jonathan Levine the other night. I can't make it but, if you're in the area check it out or let people know. There are pieces from over 100 artists including myself, Mr. Shane Jessup and Tim Diet. The phrase "can we pretend" comes from the title of my favorite Bill Withers song of the same name.

Download the song here.

The opening is Friday Feb 13th 6 -10pm at:
Jinxed Gallery 620 S. 4th St.
Philadelphia, PA 19147.

Shiego Fukuda (RIP)

Sorry this may seem a bit late but I wanted to honor the passing of an amazing designer.
